I have read the book twice so far, once alone and once to my youngest daughter. Since reading the book, I've discovered that there's more to Hitty than just a book written about an old doll. To me, the book captures something that shows that even when one gets older, one is never too old to play!

To me, Hitty is the perfect doll that gives us all an excuse to play, in such a way where others can't say "Aren't you too old for that". I guess I consider Hitty the Peter Pan for those of us who love dolls and most importantly, for those who love the simple things in life like the chirping of a bird, the bloom of a spring flower and the smell of cool rain in the summer.

Ok, well since the forum is slow right now, I'll just reply that I had another copy of the book come in the mail this week, it'll be traveling to California with a 10-year old this summer for her to read!

I read the book when I was a little girl and came across it again recently, reread it and still love it. I agree with you completely about Hitty and the simpler life. I have several dolls I play with, but Jemima is the one that evokes a simpler time, when things weren't so rushed. When I look or hold Jemima, there is a comfort there that tells me to slow down and that I don't need to try and keep up with the Joneses.

That's a good way to explain one of the endearing things about Hitty. No need to keep up with the Joneses, just enjoy the moment and have fun!
